I WAS fortunate to attend the Celtic Connections concert celebrating Clydesider John Maclean on January 19. The presentation of his short life was superb, verbally, poetically and musically.
A hundred years on since his demise, is it not tragic that an increasing number of our fellow citizens are still living in poverty, sub-standard or no accommodation, being exploited with low wages thus leading to lower life expectancy?

No matter what party or people have been elected to ensure the “safety” of the nation, it has been the biggest disgrace and failure of our society that UK politicians and greedy, selfish entrepreneurs have turned a blind eye to this predicament.
This never-ending crisis is unlikely to change, whether it is a multi-millionaire or Sir Keir who occupies No 10 later this year.
What a shame we do not have caring, committed people willing to expose and repair our corrupt Kingdom any more.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
