GOOD of Jacob Rees-Mogg to make the democratic case for independence on BBC Question Time on Thursday night.

Pity there was no one in the audience or panel (I had no expectations of Fiona Bruce) to point out the contradiction in his and his party’s position on Scottish democracy.

Quite how he was able to stop himself from choking, I don’t know.

Asked to list the advantages conveyed by Brexit he was able to affirm that: “The basic advantage is democracy. You decide how you are now governed. Your votes cannot be overruled by a corrupt cabal.”

Would it be too much for the Honourable Member to see that statement through the lens of the Scottish people, a majority of whom, according to the last five opinion polls, do indeed wish to decide how we are governed despite our votes being overruled by a corrupt cabal?
