THE English nationalists are at their disinformation again, this time in the shape of Lord Garnier, with his latest piece of male bovine excrement in the House of Lords.

Firstly he compares Nicola Sturgeon to Eamon De Valera. Although the Republic of Ireland struggle has some similarities with the Scottish campaign for independence, theirs was based as much on poverty and religion as it was on politics. Ours is more to do with politics.

Then he warns Scotland will become a republic. This over-opinionated and under-educated lord of the realm should know the difference between a republic and an independent, sovereign nation, more so as he is a former solicitor general!

An independent nation can have a king, or queen, and if Scotland does keep the Queen, then it also by default keeps the Union flag – a symbol of the union of the crowns, not the parliaments. A republic doesn’t have a king, queen or a hereditary head of state but an elected head. I’ve yet to hear a proper discussion on Scotland becoming a republic, although I’ve met a number of republicans. Lord Garnier should remember that politics is based on facts, not fiction!
