THE fact that the Queen and some of the wealthiest landowners can legitimately have their business rate bill reduced to less than local schools is utterly appalling and shows how urgently the question of land ownership, tax etc have to be addressed.

Land ownership, land use and land tax surely have to be priority issues to be tackled in an independent Scotland.

ON the day a new poll reveals that Scots overwhelmingly support the re-wilding of large tracts of land and support ending shooting estates that deplete the environment, we have this.

We don’t just need a land tax, we should also have an environmental tax that changes attitudes to the depleted landscapes that abound in Scotland and which provide only benefits to a rich and privileged few.

Time to ban shooting estates and kick these landowners out of Scotland. Our country is not a playground for blood sports.
