IT was with astonishment that I read that John Swinney has set up a committee to look at a memorial for her late majesty Queen Elizabeth. In these straightened times, money could be put to better use. If he favours such a memorial, let it be funded by public subscription and not the taxpayer.

Recent correspondence in the press has suggested that the SNP leadership has lost touch with the membership AND the general public. That Mr Swinney is considering such a project seems confirmation that this is the case.
I’ve no axe to grind about the late person who was the monarch but feel that the such a memorial would be seen as celebration of monarchy as an institution. That I do have an objection to.

NO way should the Scottish Government pay for a memorial to the late Queen whilst Westminster tries to undermine Holyrood’s competence by deliberate underfunding our pocket money. No statue ever fed any children, they’re only a toilet for the pigeons!
