“CONCERN over lack of internet use skills” (Aug 12). This is a real problem for many people. They are not stupid or ignorant, they just cannot get to grips with computers. Society refuses to acknowledge this and so people are ostracised. Cut off from communicating with doctors, local authority departments, banking services, buying train tickets – the list of essential day-to-day services required is getting longer and longer. The fact is that no-one in the modern world cares.

The government response to the problem is typical: “We do not want anyone to be left behind in the digital age and are striving to make Scotland a fully digitally inclusive nation in which digital and data infrastructure is available to everyone”. This is wishful thinking. The fact is that Scotland is not going to be digitally inclusive any time soon. What is the government going to do to allow all of its citizens access the services and information they require whether or not they are “digitally literate”? Are we an inclusive country or not? Answers on the back of a postage stamp please!
