Teenage swim starlet Evelyn Davis admits she’s now hoping for a shock Olympic call-up just weeks after sitting her GCSEs.

The London-based Scot returned from Budapest yesterday with two golds from the European Swimming Championships for her efforts in the heats of the women’s and mixed 4x100 metres freestyle relays.

The 16-year-old was forced to train in a makeshift pool in her garden during lockdown with a bungee cord pulling her back.

But with the British team now eyeing up relay medals galore, Davis will go into next week’s final selection meeting in Glasgow knowing she’s within touching distance of a ticket to Tokyo.

“It’s the last shot in Glasgow,” she said. “I’ll just give it everything. It’s up to the  selectors and we’ll see what happens. It would mean everything. Olympics, they’re the top of the game. I’m still young and still a junior but it would be amazing.”

It’s just two years since Davis made the podium at the European junior championships. However she proved in Hungary that she’s not out of place in a British freestyle group that will be in the mix for gold come July’s Games

“It’s definitely different to juniors but I really enjoyed it. I’ve learnt that it is a higher level but it is just swimming. It’s only as stressful as you make it.”

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that European gold medallists Duncan Scott and Kathleen Dawson have entered the draft for the third season of the International Swimming League.

The Scottish duo are set to be in high demand and in the frame for lucrative paydays although they could be re-signed in advance by current team London Roar.

"I am very pleased to see that the large majority of our star swimmers from the first two seasons have committed to participating in ISL Season 3 through registering for the ISL Draft," said ISL Founder Konstantin Grigorishin.
