The National: THE UK’s least favourite lettuce, Liz Truss, has managed to outdo herself at a US far-right conference.

In a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (Cpac) near Washington DC – an event where at least one speaker called for an “end to democracy” – the former prime minister doubled down on claims an “administrative state” and left-wing interests had undermined her policies in Downing Street.

Of course, it had nothing to do with her trashing the economy in record time.

“Mad conspiracy theories are the only alibi the Tories have left,” said an ex-Foreign Office adviser in reaction.

Truss also said conservatives being in power was the only way to “save the West” and that they were operating in a “hostile environment” and needed a “bigger bazooka”. I don’t know either. And I doubt the few people who turned up did.The National:

Interviewed by former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon after her speech, Truss also said she was willing to work with Nigel Farage to change the Conservative Party. Into being even more unpalatable to the electorate, presumably.

She said: “I will work with whoever it takes to make our country successful, I will work with whoever.

“And Nigel, I’ve done an interview with him today, I would like him to become a member of the Conservative Party and help turn our country around.”

She also suggested Bannon, who is facing fraud charges in New York, could “come over to Britain and sort out Britain,” to which he joked that he “may be banned in Britain”.

Another insane speaker at the conference – among many – was Make America Great Again influencer Jack Posobiec.

He told attendees: “Welcome to the end of democracy. We're here to overthrow it completely. We didn't get all the way there on January 6th, but we will endeavour to get rid of it and replace it with this right here…Because all glory is to God.”

It’s the company you keep.
