RUTH Davidson has apologised for breaking a journalist’s finger during a penalty shoot-out for charity…eight years ago.
The former Scottish Conservative leader was taking part in the competition between Better Together and Yes Scotland to raise money for Scotland United Against MND during the run up to the 2014 independence referendum.
However, Davidson was apparently unaware that Better Together’s victory during the shoot-out came at the expense of journalist Dominic Hinde’s finger.
He tweeted: “It was apparently eight years ago today that Ruth Davidson broke my finger in a penalty shoot out.
“I'd been led to believe this match was going to be a full on end to end affair, but when I got there discovered it was just a shootout for the cameras. In hindsight I got off lucky as I think RD could have gone full Mark van Bommel on me.”
I don't think I knew that. In any event, belated apologies for breaking your finger. Eight years on and I'm still a smidgen proud I got it top bins past a handy six-footer. https://t.co/vZ4Vu9c4pD

Unaware that her footballing prowess had resulted in injury, Davidson responded: “I don't think I knew that. In any event, belated apologies for breaking your finger.
“Eight years on and I'm still a smidgen proud I got it top bins past a handy six-footer.”
It’s this type of forgetfulness that Scotland has come to expect from Baroness Davidson of Lundin Links.
For instance, when Davidson was sworn into the House of Lords last year after accepting a life peerage from Boris Johnson’s government, she stated that “reforming the House of Lords into a democratic chamber” was one of her top priorities.
However, it has now been over a year since she took her seat in the upper Chamber and she hasn’t mentioned it once.

Still, it’s not like she’s the only member of her party taking shots at journalists.
During one of the innumerable Tory leadership hustings Liz Truss was interviewed by TalkTV presenter Tom Newton Dunn When asked about her spending commitments she responded: “I believe in Britain, unlike some of the media who choose to talk our country down.”
It was the third time during that interview alone that Truss attacked the media, causing her to be caught on a hot mic at the end of the debate apologising.
“I am sorry I was mean about the media, Tom.” she said.
Belated apologies appear to be the Tory fashion du jour. We’re expecting one for Brexit any day now…
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
