A HIGHLY praised Edinburgh attraction which was recently named by Tripadvisor as the best in the UK has announced a string of Christmas events.
The Real Mary King’s Close, one of Edinburgh's top tourist destinations, has over 1800 TripAdvisor reviews, more ratings than Disneyland Paris.
The preserved 17th century street, which educates visitors on how people in Scotland lived hundreds of years ago, will run Christmas tours each Sunday in December.
The new immersive experience will educate patrons about how Victorian-era traditions shaped present Christmas celebrations. The tours will run four times daily.

The one-hour guided tour takes customers back in time to meet the residents of The Close and learn about the history of Christmas in Scotland.
The tour goes over how the holiday was effectively banned for nearly 400 years due to a 1640 Scottish Parliament law that outlawed "Yule vacations".
Following the tour, guests will make their way to an underground vault for a 30-minute interactive experience where they will meet one of the last residents of Mary King’s Close.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy Victorian craft activities and freshly baked scones.
The weekly tours will run at 12pm, 1.30pm, 3.00pm, and 4.30pm each Sunday in December. Prices are £32.50 for adults and £25 for children.
The Real Mary King’s Close was recently named the UK’s top tourist attraction at the 2024 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. It was also ranked as the 11th best visitor attraction in Europe.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
