A WOMAN has died after she was 'hit by a car' in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire. 

Emergency services were called to Crossgates at around 9.30pm last night (November 1) following a crash involving a silver Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian. 

The pedestrian, a 41-year-old woman, was pronounced dead a short time later.

A 36-year-old man, who was driving the car, was arrested in connection with road traffic offences. 

He was later released pending further enquiries. 

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch and said their thoughts are with the woman's family. 

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

"If you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then please contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 4291 of Friday, November 1. 

The road was closed following the incident and reopened at around 4am this morning.
