SCOTTISH Labour have a new councillor after winning a by-election.
Charles Currie was elected to represent the party in Arran, on North Ayrshire Council, after Tory councillor Timothy Billings resigned.
The Scottish Greens’ candidate Neil Wilkinson came third behind the independent candidate James McMaster.

No other candidates got more than 100 votes, with the LibDems winning just 12. The SNP did not stand.
The number of first preference votes for each party were:
- Scottish Labour, 748
- Independent candidate, 402
- Scottish Greens, 340
- Scottish Tories, 90
- Reform UK, 55
- Scottish LibDems, 12
North Ayrshire Labour celebrated on social media, writing: "Labour gain on the Isle of Arran!
"Congratulations to the Isle of Arran's new @ScottishLabour Councillor Charles Currie! Let's get to work!"
Zubir Ahmed, the MP for Glasgow South West, added: "Amazing result well done to all!"
North Ayrshire Council is controlled by the SNP, who run a minority administration.
