ANAS Sarwar has been named MSP of the Year at a political awards bash.

The Scottish Labour leader scooped the award at Holyrood magazine’s annual Political Awards, as Lord Wallace of Tankerness – former deputy first minister and LibDem peer – took home the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sarwar (below) won the award for overseeing “a dramatic revival in his party’s fortunes in Scotland, while continuing to put pressure on the Scottish Government at Holyrood”.

It comes as Scottish Labour gained 36 seats in the General Election on July 4, with the SNP down to just nine.

The event was held at the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens on Thursday and was hosted by comedian Matt Forde.
