THE SNP conference kicks off today in Edinburgh as party members will discuss a post-mortem of a poor General Election campaign.

It will be John Swinney’s first party conference since returning as SNP leader and the First Minister has been speaking to party members around Scotland since taking the helm, seeking feedback, and analysing what went wrong.

Many party members will be asking what next following the wake of losing 39 SNP MPs at Westminster and what the plan for independence looks like in the future.

There will be talks at the conference by a variety of speakers, including Swinney, Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes, leader of the party at Westminster Stephen Flynn, and depute party leader Keith Brown.

The conference begins on Friday and runs over the weekend.
