A 13-YEAR-OLD girl has been charged following a wilful fire at a barn in Ross and Cromarty.

Emergency services were called to a report of a barn fire at Caplich Quarry, at Alness, at around 7.30pm on Saturday, August 24.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spent almost 24 hours at the scene tackling the blaze before it was extinguished.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Local residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed in order to stop smoke from entering their homes.

Police also asked people to avoid the area while fire crews tackled the blaze. Officers confirmed shortly after the incident that it was being treated as “wilful”.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “A report will be submitted to the Children’s Reporter and procurator fiscal.”
