A WOMAN has died following an incident in Glasgow city centre.

On Tuesday, emergency crews raced to the scene after reports of a woman, lying on the ground, who had been struck by a car on Wellington Lane at around 2.40pm.

Now, police have revealed the 40-year-old woman has sadly passed away.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

Officers say the woman's family have been informed.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident so far has established the woman was dropped off in the lane prior to being hit by the vehicle.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Detective Sergeant Sean McLoughlin said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around this incident.

"A family has lost a loved one and it's imperative we provide answers as to how that happened.

"If anyone has any information, who has not yet spoken to us, please do get in touch."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: "Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2027 of August 13 2024."

During the incident, we reported how police sealed off the area, while officers stood guard preventing anyone from accessing the street.

On top of that, several cop cars along with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Ambulance Service were pictured on the scene.
