TWO police officers have been raced to hospital after multi-vehicle crash on Glasgow's busy M8 motorway.

Emergency crews rushed to Junction 13 (Provan Interchange) on the motorway after being called to a multi-vehicle crash in the east end of the city. 

Police say they were alerted to the incident shortly after 1pm on Wednesday, July 24.

Now, the force has revealed the smash involved three motors – and one of them was a police car.

Mercy crews are still in attendance at the scene, however, four people have been taken to hospital for treatment – with two of them being on-duty police officers.

Traffic Scotland has said the road's eastbound carriageway remains closed following the smash.

Meanwhile, local diversions are in place and road users are being urged to avoid the area.

In pictures captured for The Glasgow Times and The National at the scene, multiple emergency crews – including police, fire, and ambulance teams – can be seen dealing with the crash.

On top of that, the three vehicles involved can be seen severely damaged.

Currently Police Scotland has not revealed the full nature of the incident and how on-duty officers were involved in it.

The Scottish Ambulance Service previously confirmed they were in attendance at the crash.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "The M8 in Glasgow is closed eastbound at J13 following a three-vehicle crash, including a police car, which happened around 1.10pm on Wednesday, July 24.

"Emergency services attended and two people were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and two to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

"Two of those were on-duty police officers.

"Local diversions are in place and road users are advised to avoid the area."

A spokesperson for Traffic Scotland said: "M8 – Junction 13.

"Closed eastbound due to a multi-vehicle collision.

"Emergency services are in attendance. Local diversions in place at this time."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.12pm on Wednesday, July 24 to reports of a collision involving three vehicles on the M8 near junction 13 eastbound.

“Operations control mobilised five fire appliances and firefighters assisted emergency service partners at the scene.

“Four casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
