A DECISION on whether to demolish a Highland cottage once owned by Jimmy Savile is set to be made by councillors on Tuesday.

Earlier this month planning officials for Highland Council recommended Allt-Na-Reigh in Glen Coe be demolished and replaced.

The cottage, which sits beside the A82 Fort William to Glasgow road, has been regularly vandalised and scrawled with graffiti since paedophile Savile’s death in 2011.

While Savile owned the cottage from 1998 until his death, the house also had another famous occupant during its history.

It was once owned by famous Scottish mountaineer Dr Hamish MacInnes, who invented ice axes and whose innovations in mountain rescue are still used today.

It is currently owned by the family of Harris Aslam, the owner of successful Kirkcaldy-based convenience store business Greens Retail Ltd.

Proposals to redevelop the property include renovating the outbuildings under the moniker Hamish House.

Highland Council’s planning committee will meet on Tuesday, June 18 to discuss the proposed development and potential demolition of the main house.
