THE National’s Euro 2024 contest winner has been announced and they can’t wait to throw a “proper” Scotland party.

Earlier this month readers of The National had a chance to win a prize bundle filled with swag, including a £200 Tesco gift card, a BBQ a Google Home Mini and a TV, as one lucky winner has been drawn.

Lorna Lyons, who lives in Busby with her three kids, said she couldn’t believe she had won at first – and neither could her husband John Wilson.

The NHS24 call handler had missed the initial messages that she had won because she was asleep after coming home from a night shift.

But when she realised she had been the lucky winner after turning her phone on she said: “It was absolutely amazing.”

She added: “I didn't actually think I had any chance of winning it.

“I just thought I would enter it and hope for the best.”

She then told Wilson, who also couldn’t believe she had won, and the family are now planning on hosting a BBQ to celebrate the Euros in style, but once Lyons has finished her backshifts.

Although she did say her two younger boys Ashton Wilson, 14, and Brodie Wilson, 9, are having friends over to watch Scotland take on the tournament hosts Germany on Friday night.

She said: “Unfortunately, I'm working early Saturday morning, so I'll be limited to the partying I will be doing.

“But we're gonna wait for that and we'll be having a barbecue. “

“As they say, there's no Scotland, no party.”

Lyons said the family are planning on having the BBQ come rain or shine to celebrate the Scotland team's games in the competition.

Her two youngsters are “really excited” to watch Scotland play in a big international tournament as the family predict Steve Clarke’s men are going to pip the Germans in the opening match with a 2-1 score line.
