A FUNDRAISER launched to thank some “local heroes” who CCTV footage showed stopping an attempted armed robbery in a Scottish shop has smashed its target in less than one day.

Dunfermline local Wendy Keith launched a fundraiser with a target of £1000 after the incident on Thursday, June 13 in a Nisa shop in the city.

CCTV footage shared online shows staff being threatened with what appears to be a gun – before one man leaps over the counter and intervenes.

Others quickly rush to help and the attempted robbery is foiled.

Police confirmed they had attended a call to “an attempted robbery at a premises on Abbey View in Dunfermline” at the same time as the stamps on the CCTV footage.

Officers also recovered a BB gun and said no one had been hurt.

A fundraiser to thank the “local heroes” who foiled the robbery has already raised more than £1600 – far exceeding its £1000 target.

On the fundraiser, Wendy Keith wrote: “This store is run by a lovely family who have served the community in over 10 years, always going the extra mile to help everyone.

“Staff members put their lives at risk to tackle the robber and save other staff and shoppers in the store.”

She added: “Donations big or small will be greatly accepted. Just remember ALL HEROES DONT WEAR CAPES. Thank you in advance.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection.

“He is due to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Friday.

“No one required medical treatment.

“A BB gun was recovered during this incident.

“A report will be forwarded to the procurator fiscal.”
