A BODY has been found in the search for a woman who went missing from a psychiatric hospital in Ayrshire. 

Police Scotland have confirmed they have found a body at around 11am on Saturday, June 8, while searching for missing woman Anne MacDonald.

The body was found in a woodland near Eglington Interchange, Irvine.

The 54-year-old was last seen in the Kilwinning Road area around 12.30pm on Monday, June 3.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but MacDonald’s family has been informed.

Police believe there are no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Around 11am on Saturday, 8 June, 2024, the body of a woman was found in woodland near to the Eglington Interchange, Irvine.

“Formal identification has yet to take place, however the family of Anne MacDonald, who had been reported missing from Irvine, have been informed.

“There is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
