LITTERBUG journalists have been given a stern warning by Scottish Parliament bosses as rubbish was “dumped” on the floor amid media scrums as the race to succeed Humza Yousaf heats up.

Scottish Parliament authorities sent out a notice to journalists on Thursday morning reminding them to “clear up after yourselves”.

They said cleaning staff had raised concerns about dumped takeaway containers and disposable cups in Holyrood’s garden lobby.

A recent job listing by private contractors Mitie offered a wage of £11.24 per hour for nightshift cleaning staff at the Scottish Parliament.

In an email to Scottish political hacks, the Parliament said: “Our cleaning colleagues have asked us to remind you to clear up after yourselves.

“So far this week, half-finished takeaway meals from the canteen have been left on tables in the garden lobby, and rubbish dumped on the floor.

“Please note we do not provide a table-clearing service for anyone.”

Holyrood is a hive of activity this week as the media focuses intensely on the fallout of Yousaf’s resignation as First Minister.

Kate Forbes kept her lips sealed as she made her way past a waiting press pack earlier this week but later announced she was considering a leadership bid.

John Swinney on Thursday morning announced he wanted to take over as leader and offered Forbes a senior position in his Cabinet if he becomes first minister.

He batted away suggestions that he would be a short-lived leader, telling a press conference in Edinburgh: “I am no caretaker.”
