SCOTLAND’S largest trade union body has endorsed The National’s fundraiser on behalf of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).

The Scottish Trades Union Congress - STUC - pledged £1000 to support humanitarian aid getting into Gaza.

MAP is one of the only organisations which is able to provide aid on the ground in Gaza.

Since October 7, more than 30,000 Palestinians are believed to have been killed, with 85% of Gaza’s population displaced.

The World Food Programme estimates that 4 in 5 Gazans face hunger and starvation, whilst the World Health Organisation has warned that disease could kill more Palestinians than bombs.

The STUC’s general secretary, Roz Foyer (below), supported The National’s fundraiser, saying that Palestinians “deserve all the support we can give”.

She continued: “There are no words to adequately describe the unfolding horror in Gaza.

“All right-thinking people know there must be an immediate ceasefire, but even if the killing and blockade were to stop tomorrow, the need for immediate humanitarian support will not. People are starving now.

“The mission of Medical Aid for Palestinians, with workers on the ground in Gaza, is dedicated to the health and dignity of Palestinians. They deserve all the support we can give.

“The STUC pledges a donation of £1000 to the appeal.”
