A SCOTTISH songwriter and producer said he is feeling “grateful” after discovering one of his songs reached number one in the charts in Luxembourg.

Sam Brodie, 22 and originally from Kirkcaldy, started making music in his bedroom in 2016 and has gone from strength to strength since then.

Speaking to The National, the Scot discussed how he got his start in the music industry, working with Grammy award-winning artists and seeing his latest hit reach the top of the charts.

“I started making music in my bedroom. I used to upload beats using drums, guitars and pianos to YouTube for other artists to use,” Brodie (below) said.

The National:

“They started getting traction and it all just kind of went from there, really.”

Since then, it’s safe to say his career has been on something of an upward trajectory with Brodie having now worked with a number of Grammy-winning artists.

These include Teddy Riley; MixedByAli; The Last Artful, Dodgr; and Cubeatz – but despite that experience, he admits he was still shocked when the latest song he worked on – No Use by by Shady Blu featuring 03 Greedo – peaked in the Billboard Luxembourg Songs chart.

It came about after one of the song’s other co-producers picked out one of his beats and wanted to use it for the piece.

Brodie is credited both as a co-writer and co-producer and explained that his vocals also feature in the opening chorus.

He said: “It’s a very weird one because a lot of countries you think you want to get to number one ... but Luxembourg wasn’t really on that list.

“I’m very humbled and grateful for it, but it wasn’t the intention of the song at all to reach these heights. It’s a rap song so to go to number one on any chart is interesting but like I say I’m really just so grateful for it all.”

At just 22 years old, Brodie has already achieved so much, working with a number of award-winning artists.

But he’s hoping to maintain the pace and continue to build on his own Spotify channel which currently has around 150,000 monthly listeners.

“I’m working on that right now and hopefully I can just keep up this momentum and see where it all goes from there.”
