A NUMBER of rail operators have issued updates for passengers ahead of Storm Jocelyn.

The Met Office has already issued several weather warnings, including an amber alert for western Scotland.

Elsewhere, ScotRail has confirmed that all services will be suspended from 7pm this evening and there will be no rush-hour trains on Wednesday morning.

Operators which run cross-Border services have now also issued updates for those planning on travelling.

Avanti West Coast

Avanti West Coast has called on passengers not to travel north of Preston after 3.30pm on Tuesday due to the storm.

The last scheduled service from London to Glasgow will leave at 3.30pm, calling at Preston at 5.41pm, and is expected to be “extremely busy”.

The last trains of the day from Glasgow and Edinburgh will depart before 5pm, while services to and from Scotland are expected to be suspended until at least noon on Wednesday.

Passengers with tickets for travel north of Preston on Tuesday and Wednesday can use them at any time until the end of Thursday.

Those who cannot complete their journey due to the disruption can request a full refund from where they bought their ticket.

TransPennine Express

TransPennine Express is “strongly urging” passengers to avoid travelling between England and Scotland from 3pm on Tuesday until noon on Wednesday.

In a statement, it said: “High winds and heavy rainfall are set to cause major disruption to services in and out of Scotland.”

The affected routes are between Glasgow and Preston and between Edinburgh and both Newcastle and Preston.

The operator’s customer experience and operations director Kathryn O’Brien said: “Our number one priority is to keep our customers and colleagues safe, and we will be doing all we can to keep people moving in difficult conditions.

“We are urging anyone travelling across the affected routes to plan ahead, allow extra time, check their journey up until the last minute and follow the guidance provided.”

LNER

In a statement posted on Twitter/X on Monday night, LNER – which runs services between Edinburgh and London – said: “As further rain & high winds are expected tomorrow evening (Tuesday), Network Rail has taken the decision to close the railway in Scotland from 7pm.

The National:

“We are advising customers to not travel north of Newcastle between 3pm, Tuesday January 23 and 12pm, Wednesday January 24.”

It added that ticket restrictions had also been lifted and that tickets dated January 21-24 could be used up to and including January 25.

However, it also added that full refunds were available for unused tickets.
