THE first official trailer of the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has been released after a leak of it appeared on social media.

Publishers Rockstar unveiled the teaser on YouTube at midnight, around a day earlier than expected.

It has already racked up tens of millions of views since going live, with the games company posting on Twitter/X: “Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube.”

Fans have waited almost a decade for the announcement following the success of GTA V – which became the second-best-selling video game of all time behind Minecraft.

It was released in 2013 to critical acclaim.

The series has been developed by Rockstar North which was first founded in Dundee and is now headquartered in Edinburgh.

The trailer for the sixth game features the Miami-inspired Vice City – the same setting as the famous 2002 game.

It confirms the GTA series first female protagonist, Lucia, who is accompanied by an unknown male partner.
