A SCOTTISH beach has been named as the cleanest in the UK with three across the country making the top 10.
Researchers at Cleanipedia investigated where in the UK to find the cleanest beaches using Tripadvisor.
The team examined top-rated TripAdvisor reviews with mentions of the word “clean” and other associated keywords.

Embo Beach in Dornoch in the Scottish Highlands was named as the cleanest beach in the UK.
Troon Beach meanwhile came in sixth place while Burntisland Beach came in ninth place.
As for the rest of the top 10, only two beaches in England were named as it continues to be plagued by issues with sewage dumping.
All the others on the list were in Wales.
Across Scotland, the top 10 cleanest beaches were:
- 1 – Embo Beach, Dornoch
- 2 – Troon Beach, Troon
- 3 – Burntisland Beach – Fife
- 4 – Fraserburgh Beach – Tiger Hill
- 5 – Irvine Beach – Irvine
- 6 – Saltcoats Beach – Saltcoats
- 7 – Sandend Beach - Sandend
- 8 – Cullen Beach
- 9 – Girvan Beach – Girvan
- 10 – Leven Beach
