A NUMBER of Scottish seaside towns have made a list of the very best in the UK.

The Times newspaper revealed its ranking of the 20 best seaside towns in the UK, with four Scottish towns making the cut. 

While St Ives in Cornwall took the crown, Troon in South Ayrshire took second place.

Credited for its top golfing scene and overlooking the Isle of Arran, it has two long beautiful sandy beaches – Barassie beach towards the north and Troon beach to the south.

The National:

Tobermory, on the Isle of Mill was number eight on the list. The wee fishing port’s colourful houses were praised, as was its 18th-century whisky distillery and shorefront restaurants.

They were followed by St Andrews in Fife, which was 11th, while Portpartrick in Dumfries and Galloway was 17th.
