BARONESS Ruth Davidson has been challenged to boycott the Scottish Tory party conference after Boris Johnson was confirmed as attending in person.

The former Scots Tory leader was filmed close to tears on Channel 4 in January this year over how let down she claimed she was by the PM's leadership after the Sue Gray report was released.

And now, the SNP's Kaukab Stewart has challenged Davidson to ditch the conference next weekend in Aberdeen.

It comes as current Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross U-turned on his call for the PM to resign over partygate revelations, a move which opposition leaders called "spineless".

Davidson had said in an interview with Channel 4's Cathy Newman that it's "doesn't matter what colour rosette you wear", that if you believe in the UK's institutions "you don't want to see them undermined".

She added that it was key to have a PM that "leads by example" in a time of crisis.

When Newman followed up by asking Davidson if she was upset, she replied: "I am upset and I'm upset because not just because of things that myself and others that are in like close family and circle of friends missed and had to give up.

"But you know, I was working in the Scottish Parliament. I had constituents that lost businesses I have people that feel guilty that they didn't go to the care home to see their parents, that they didn't hug a friend at a funeral because they played by the rules."

Davidson appeared close to tears, adding: "Now they look at what happened in Number 10, and they feel like idiots, and they shouldn't be made to feel like that."

And just a few months later, with Ross's U-turn and the PM's visit imminent, the SNP challenged Davidson to boycott the conference.

Stewart, SNP MSP for Glasgow Kelvin, said: “Baroness Davidson talks a good game – but will she vote with her feet and ditch her party’s conference, where the red carpet will be rolled out for Boris Johnson?

“The situation in Ukraine is absolutely devastating – and the Prime Minister is presiding over a heartless and shambolic refugee policy, refusing to waive visas for refugees and trailing behind on humanitarian aid.

“But the truth is, Boris Johnson was already completely unfit for office before the Ukraine crisis erupted. Whether it be presiding over a crippling cost of living crisis or partying in Downing Street while the rest of us followed the rules – Boris Johnson must go.

“Douglas Ross now once again gives his support to Boris Johnson. If Ruth Davidson had any credibility at all left, she’d stick by her own words and give the PM – and her party conference – the cold shoulder.”

The Scottish Conservatives have been contacted for comment.
