A SCOTTISH Tory MP will be taking up a new post working under Liz Truss at the Foreign Office.

John Lamont, who represents Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk at Westminster, announced the news on Twitter on Friday.

Lamont will be leaving a post as the parliamentary private secretary to the Culture Secretary - now Nadine Dorries.

Lamont previously worked under Oliver Dowden before he was moved off the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport brief in mid-September.

He will be taking up a role as parliamentary private secretary to Truss, who was moved into the Foreign Secretary role in that same reshuffle.

Lamont (above) wrote on Twitter: “I’ve loved working with the amazing @NadineDorries and the incredible team at @DCMS but I’m very excited to be moving to join @trussliz as her Parliamentary Private Secretary at the @FCDOGovUK.”

Truss also tweeted saying that she was “delighted to have [him] on board”.

The role of a parliamentary private secretary is, according to the UK Government website, to be the minister’s assistant and their “eyes and ears” among backbench MPs. It is unpaid.
