SCOTLAND has recorded more than 2200 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the latest daily figures show.
According to the latest data, there were 2288 new cases of the virus recorded, the first time since November 9 that the daily case total was below 3000.
The new cases had a test positivity rate of 12.3%.
There were no new deaths recorded in the latest figures, meaning the total toll under the daily measure, of people who died within 28 days of first testing positive, remains at 9389.
It is noted that register offices are generally closed at weekends.
Across Scotland's hospitals yesterday there were 771 people with recently confirmed Covid-19, an increase of six on Sunday's figure.
Of these people, 51 were in intensive care, a decrease of five.
A total of 4,330,321 people have received their first dose of a Covid vaccination and 3,929,012 have received their second dose.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
