POLICE have done a security sweep at Humza Yousaf’s house after the Health Secretary received threats.

The Scottish Government minister, who spoke to reporters about the murder of Tory MP Sir David Amess, revealed officers had recently checked his home.

Officers have given Yousaf advice on how to improve security after visiting his property.

He told Bauer Media that his thoughts are with Amess’s family, friends and colleagues.

The attack at the Tory MP’s constituency surgery rocked Yousaf to his “very core” because he had been speaking to Scottish Government chiefs within the past two weeks about receiving threats.

He told Bauer Media: "Police Scotland were round my house and in my constituency office doing a security survey because of threats that I had received as well just a month ago.

"So it's a very live issue, it's a very topical issue.

"But I know it's an issue that Police Scotland in particular take very, very seriously."

He added: "I've been left with, I think, 30 or 40 recommendations of how to improve security both in terms of my constituency office and also my own home as well.

"I'll take forward every single one of those recommendations."

Yousaf urged fellow politicians to take up the offer of a virtual briefing with Police Scotland following Amess’s death.
