TODAY is set to be a packed day in the political calendar, with both the SNP and Alba holding their party press conferences.

Both events will give major speeches and pass various motions and resolutions – with Alba set to unveil its depute leader.

So what can you expect from today’s conferences?

SNP

Unlike Alba, whose conference is being held in Greenock, the SNP 2021 conference is completely online.

It kicks off with a speech from Education Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville at 10.30.

Following that at 10.45 there will two resolutions: securing a COP26 legacy and Setting up a Scottish national energy company.

Moving on to two o’clock, SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford will give a speech where he is expected to say the party will keep their promise to hold another referendum.

More resolutions will follow from 2.15, including “walking the walk on climate change” which calls for support of the report by the Climate Assembly.

The creation of a national transport company, sustainable period products, equality in candidate selection and climate officers in party branches and constituency associations are also on the agenda.

Alba

Alba will kick of its conference on Saturday at 10 with a motion to endorse the party’s constitution.

Following on from that at 10.45, election results to confirm the party’s depute leader and national office bearer will be announced.

Motions up for a vote afterwards include an independence convention, strengthening Scots institutions, establishing an independence and democracy committee as well as for the abolishment for council tax.

After a break motions will recommence at 1.30 focussing on women and equalities, examining Scotland’s role in the climate emergency, – including testing Climate Assembly recommendations – votes on whether an independent Scotland should abolish the monarchy and tackling prostitution in Scotland, including decriminalising the sale of sex.

There will also be a speech from the depute leader at 4.25 and leader Alex Salmond at 4.30 along with a musical score at 5 to play everyone out.
