A COUPLE who started lockdown facing redundancy and money worries are now producing around 600 bottles of rum a month – at their own distillery.

Matt and Becky Hunt were terrified of the financial impact of Covid with two young children to look after.

Matt was made redundant from his job as a pilot at Flybe in March last year while Becky had trained as a teacher but hadn’t been working outside the home and felt “under-qualified” for applications.

The couple decided to pour £15,000 in savings into a rum distillery in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire. Their rum, Old Mother Hunt, is now being sold at farm shops and online.

Matt and Becky, who moved to Strathaven in 2017, only use natural ingredients when creating the rum, which has captured customers across the UK with a taste they describe as “raw, authentic and honest”.
