PRESIDENT Donald Trump used his first major television interview since his election loss to suggest the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice could be involved in an electoral fraud conspiracy.
The claim, which he and his supporters believe lost him the White House, comes after $35,000 per individual ballot was spent only to give his opponent, president-elect Joe Biden, even more of a lead in Wisconsin.
There have been some who have doubted the president’s sanity since he started his campaign to undermine the USA’s democracy by suggesting that he actually won the election, and that Biden “stole” it from him.
Yesterday, however, he went much further and alleged the involvement of the USA’s prime investigators in the electoral fraud conspiracy.
On Fox News, Trump told Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo: “ This is total fraud and how – the FBI and Department of Justice, I don’t know, maybe they’re involved – but how people are allowed to get away from this with this stuff is unbelievable.”
Trump will continue as president until January 20 at 12pm.
After then, the FBI and Department of Justice will be free to pursue him over the many allegations against his conduct before and during his term of office.
You may think it would be a good idea for Trump to not antagonise the potential investigators, but “The Donald” doesn’t do sensible.
Instead, he gave Bartiromo a long and rambling rant of an interview, saying: “My mind will not change in six months. There was tremendous cheating here.
“If Republicans allow it to happen, you’ll never have another Republican elected in the history of this country, at a Senate level or at a presidential level.”
Trump’s legal team is yet to produce any serious evidence of voter fraud in any of the 30-plus lawsuits they have lost since the election at the start of the month.
In Wisconsin, Trump’s legal campaign to overturn the state’s narrow verdict in favour of Biden went spectacularly wrong.
After spending more than $3m to pay for a partial re-count, Wisconsin’s electoral authorities reported that Biden had actually gained 87 votes in the final result, meaning Trump paid $35,000 per extra vote for his opponent.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
