THIS year’s Kiltwalk events were forced online by the pandemic – but an amazing £5 million has still been raised for Scottish charities.

Kiltwalkers across the country took part in virtual events, with the fundraising deadline for Edinburgh’s Big Virtual Weekend closing on Monday night and £1.3 million raised.

Now The Hunter Foundation has announced that it will be doubling that figure for a total of £2.6m.

£1.2m was raised between Kiltwalk’s emergency payouts in Glasgow and Aberdeen, along with Dundee’s event, which was also doubled to £2.4m – meaning a grand total of £5m in all.

Sir Tom Hunter praised the 16,000 Scots who dug deep despite the fundraiser’s change in tradition.

He said in a video: “This year, £5m is going to the charities you care about, the folks who really need it are getting a hand up, not a handout. So thank you.”
