THE Prime Minister has been exposed as a work-shy incompetent. The Government is embroiled in a PPE scandal as the UK struggles to cope with a deadly pandemic.
Downing Street needs a distraction. Something to cheer up the masses.
Luckily, the boffins at Number 10 had already put their heads together and showcased the kind of top-notch decision making that landed them jobs in the most incompetent Tory regime since the last one.
Taking their cue from Marie Antoinette, the UK Prime Minister Twitter account posted: “STAY HOME: DO SOME BAKING.”

The friendly advice was received about as well as can be expected at a time when hundreds upon hundreds of deaths are being reported every day.

Lawyer and activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu replied: “This govt is so out of touch to think this post to #StayHome and home bake would engineer anything but contempt in light of soaring deaths, NHS reusing single purpose #PPE or having none at all etc etc. No accountability whatsoever.”
Another comment read: “My daughter NICU nurse is working 3 night shifts this pandemic w/e. Will she have enough PPE to wear for her shifts? Will she be kept safe to look after her son? Will she be well enough to cook next week end? Or will her name be added to NHS list of staff that have died?”
Writer James Felton added: "Do you think maybe you could sort enough PPE so that NHS staff don’t die before you pivot into a Mary f****** Berry account?"
And there was another more practical problem.
GP Dr Alex Gates posted: “This is utterly embarrassing. You realise how out of touch this makes you look? There has been no flour available for weeks. Sincerely, people who actually go to the shops.”

Scotland is in lockdown. Shops are closing and newspaper sales are falling fast. It’s no exaggeration to say that the future of The National is at stake. Please consider supporting us through this with a digital subscription from just £2 for 2 months by following this link: http://www.thenational.scot/subscribe. Thanks – and stay safe.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
