A NATIONAL reader made a three-hour journey to repair an indy battle bus after we revealed a smash attack.

Glass was left strewn across the interior of the campaign minibus used by Dundee SNP members last week after some of its windows were smashed.

The distinctive yellow vehicle, which bears the well-known “Spirit of Scotland” illustration by artist Stewart Bremner, was parked outside the Lochee office of Dundee West MP Chris Law.

The damage occurred on January 3 and the politician said he was “disappointed and saddened” by the incident.

Now the vehicle is running again, thanks to Midlothian man Walter Marr, who travelled from Penicuik to repair the damage after reading about it in The National.

Marr, who donated the replacement glass as well as his repair skills, said it was “important to get in touch and help out in any way I could”.

He added: “I was more than happy to make the journey up and help get Dundee’s SNP minibus back out on the road.”

Thanking Marr, Law said: “He went well out of his way to help us out, and thanks to him she is now fighting fit and ready for any campaigns to come. The minibus is well-known to SNP activists across Tayside and beyond, and has helped secure important victories not just in my campaigns but for many other SNP candidates too.”

Anyone with information about the damage should to contact Crimestoppers or call police on 101, quoting incident number 1304 of January 3 2020.
