THE SNP have hit out at Scottish Tory MPs for putting their career prospects ahead of the best interests of the Scottish people after saying they will back Boris Johnson’s extreme Brexit plans.
SNP MP Pete Wishart said Scotland will have a “raw deal” with the new Withdrawal Agreement.
He added: “It’s clear that there is no low to which the Scottish Tory MPs will not stoop after signalling they will back inflicting lasting harm upon Scotland’s economy, jobs and businesses, by voting in favour of Boris Johnson’s extreme Brexit plans. Scotland alone among UK nations is getting singled out for a raw deal under Johnson’s deal – despite the fact that we voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU.

“SNP MPs will not vote for this damaging deal, which is even worse than Theresa May’s deal – and would take Scotland out of the EU, single market and customs union against our will.
“However, the Scottish Tories are prepared to ignore the devastating impact and put their narrow career prospects ahead of the economic and social interests of their constituents.”
Wishart also accused David Mundell of “sheer hypocrisy” after the former Scottish secretary confirmed he will vote in favour of Johnson’s deal, despite previously claiming he would resign from government if Brexit meant Northern Ireland having a different relationship with the EU than the rest of the UK – which Johnson’s deal would do.
“The sheer hypocrisy of David Mundell is also staggering and no one will be surprised that he has performed yet another reverse-ferret. The former Scottish secretary once claimed that he would resign from government if a Brexit deal led to Northern Ireland having a different relationship with the EU than the rest of the UK. That is exactly what Boris Johnson’s Brexit plans will do. The proposed deal puts Scotland at a serious competitive disadvantage.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
