A GREEN MSP has called on the Queen to abdicate over her role in Prime Minister Boris Johnson's unlawful prorogation.

The Supreme Court has unanimously voided the suspension of the UK Parliament, which the monarch called on the advice of Johnson.

Commons Leader Jacob Rees-Mogg had travelled to Balmoral in Scotland last month to formally advise the Queen of the plan to prorogue Parliament, which began on September 9.

Now, Andy Wightman of the Scottish Greens has urged the Queen to resign for her part in the unlawful suspension.

He tweeted: “It is clear that Prime Minister (in advising), Royal Commissioners (in implementing) and Queen (in ordering) all acted unlawfully.

“All should resign.”

Constitutional convention dictates that the Queen accept the advice to prorogue Parliament.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was asked for her thoughts on "the Queen's position" during a Sky News interview.

She responded: “Well, I think the issue here is the behaviour of the Prime Minister. The Queen was presented with the proposal as is the way these things, I understand normally happen.

"This is about the conduct and the behaviour of a Prime Minister who is, or should be, had he not sought to prorogue Parliament, be accountable to Parliament, and I think the focus today should be on that."
