TOURIST attractions in Scotland are among some of the highest rated in the world, according to new figures released by TripAdvisor.

The website revealed reviewers’ favourite tours, activities and experiences across the globe – and picks from Edinburgh, Glasgow, and the Highlands made the cut.

For hop-on-hop-off bus experiences, the Royal Edinburgh tour with Edinburgh Castle admission topped the list, battling off rivals in Cape Town, California and Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, the City Sightseeing Glasgow tour came eighth, seeing off competition from Barcelona.

In global culture tours, Edinburgh’s Royal Mile Guided Walking Tour came fifth, ranking above similar experiences in Mumbai and Paris, while the three-day Isle of Skye and Scottish Highlands Small-Group Tour – which starts in the capital – was placed 10th.

Finally, in the top 10 multi-day tour, the two-day Loch Ness and Inverness Small-Group Tour from Edinburgh came fourth, beating experiences in St Petersburg, Machu Picchu and Marrakech.

Overall, the top experience in the world was the Faster Than Skip-the-Line tour at the Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica.

“We know experiences are the best part of any trip, so over the last year we’ve doubled the bookable experiences offered to more than 200,000 – giving travellers even more of what they want and love,” said Hayley Coleman, a TripAdvisor spokesperson.
