AS Armistice Day approaches once more many people choose to wear a red poppy. People recognise November 11 and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. They gladly give a donation to help support soldiers of former conflicts and respect the rituals enacted across Scotland. I am no different – except I chose to wear a white poppy.

The line “Work as if you live in the early days of a better nation” – from a poem by Dennis Lee and quoted often by Alasdair Gray – is often cited by politicians but too often is not lived up to.

The Tory made crisis resulting from their mini-budget explodes the myth that they are safe custodians of the economy. More importantly, it explodes the myth that Scotland is best to remain tied to a failing UK state.
