RANGERS will round-off their preparations for the new Lowland League campaign with European action after confirming their participation in the Plzen Tournament.
David McCallum's side will head to the Czech Republic between July 14 and 18 and take on FC Viktoria Plzen, Marseille and Honved Budapest.
The continental clashes are the final ones ahead of the domestic season as Rangers gear up for their second Lowland League term alongside their peers from Celtic and Hearts.
The B Team have lined-up fixtures with Dundee and Elgin City in the coming weeks before they head to Northern Ireland to face NIFL side Glentoran on Sunday, July 10.
McCallum said: “It is fantastic to have such a varied and challenging schedule for the players as we prepare for another season in the Lowland League.
“With the league campaign beginning on July 23, it is a condensed pre-season programme and although there will be some familiar faces in the B Team squad this season, there will also be some changes as a number of last season’s Under-18s make the step-up to join the group.
“As well as games against first-team opposition it is important the players are challenged at a ‘best v best’ level against top European teams of a similar stage and this programme will give them the opportunity to test themselves in several different areas and environments.”
Rangers have also confirmed the schedule for their Under-18 squad as they count down to the new CAS League season under the guidance of Cameron Campbell.
Carlisle United will visit Auchenhowie next month before a three-team tournament will see fixtures against Bournemouth and Middlesbrough.
Friendlies with Queen's Park and West Ham follow ahead of the Super Cup in Northern Ireland and a 'best v best' competition in the Helvetia Cup.
Rangers could face the likes of PSG, Benfica and Werder Bremen in Switzerland and a Portuguese training camp will round off their schedule ahead of the domestic campaign.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
