EWEN FERGUSON and Craig Howie both confirmed promotion to next year’s European Tour after the closing round of the Challenge Tour’s Grand Final in Mallorca.

The Scottish duo both finished inside the top 20 of the rankings to seal cards for the main circuit in 2022 although Howie endured a nail-nibbling finale to his campaign.

The former Scottish Boys’ champion from Peebles, who was 16th on the order of merit at the start of the week, sagged to closing five-over 76 as the tension mounted and eventually finished in 19th spot on the rankings. His birdie on the final hole was greeted with a sigh of relief and it was job done for the 27-year-old, who was a winner on the second-tier circuit earlier in the season.

Bearsden man Ferguson, who had already achieved promotion before the season-ending showdown, signed off with a 71 for a share of 21st and finished eighth on the overall rankings.

Denmark’s Marcus Helligkilde won the Grand Final on an eight-under aggregate and savoured a double success as he also topped the final rankings to step up in style.
