Steven Gerrard has been listed as an English Premier League Hall of Fame nominee.
The EPL have already inducted Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry as their inaugural members but have now opened it up to a public vote.
Liverpool icon Gerrard, now Rangers manager, is among those available to vote for.
The Premier League confirmed this morning that six candidates will be inducted from a potential list of 23 to choose from. "After coming through Liverpool’s Academy, Gerrard spent 17 years as the driving force of the Merseysiders’ midfield," read Gerrard's biography on the voting page.
"Famed for his surging runs, pinpoint long-range passes, spectacular strikes from distance and his ability to inspire team-mates, only Frank Lampard has scored has more from midfield than Gerrard's 120 Premier League goals.
"The Reds’ long-serving captain also provided 92 PL assists and was named the competition's Player of the Month six times in his stellar career."
Gerrard made 504 appearances in the red of Liverpool, scoring 120 goals and providing 92 assists. He also scored 37 EPL winning goals for Liverpool, eight more than any other player for the club.
Others in the running for Hall of Fame pride include David Beckham, Patrick Vieira, Didier Drogba, Roy Keane and John Terry.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
