STEVEN GERRARD is confident Jack Simpson will learn from his Old Firm bow after helping Rangers to victory over Celtic at Ibrox.
The former Bournemouth defender was drafted into the side to partner Connor Goldson after Gerrard was denied the services of Filip Helander and Leon Balogun through injury.
Simpson wouldn't mark the occasion with a clean sheet after Odsonne Edouard cancelled out Kemar Roofe's opener to briefly bring John Kennedy's side level in the first half.
But he would have a win to his credit as Roofe struck again and Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe also found the target to give the champions their fourth Old Firm success of the season.
Gerrard said: "It was his first start in a game of this magnitude for us. We trusted he could do it.
"He had a couple of moments within the game. We’ll analyse his performance and so will he, because he’s a kid who wants to get better.
"I thought he did a lot of things well. He was up against one of the best players in the league in Edouard, who gets assisted well by Elyounoussi and Turnbull.
"It was a tough challenge for him. He was on a yellow card, which is always edgy. All in all, I thought he handled the situation really well.
"There are certainly areas he can get better but Jack realises that, too."
