AUTHORITIES in London are drawing up plans to screen a victory parade in Trafalgar Square should England win Euro 2020.

The city is one of 12 host locations for the football tournament, with Hampden Park in Glasgow also staging games.

Under proposals lodged by the Greater London Authority (GLA), all seven games to be hosted at Wembley will be shown on giant screens in Trafalgar Square. Among those fixtures is England’s group game against Scotland.

The GLA planning application seeks a capacity of up to 12,500 people for the fan park – with free tickets being allocated through a ballot.

Officials also outline plans to screen a “victory parade” in the square, should England win the tournament for the first time in their history.

England versus Scotland is to be played on Friday June 18.

Scotland will kick off their campaign against the Czech Republic four days earlier, with their final group game, against Croatia, coming on June 22.

The GLA plans are subject to a licensing application which will be heard at Westminster City Council later this month.

And despite the easing of Covid restrictions, the GLA accepts that due to uncertainties around the virus, details of the event may change.

Discussions of plans for the fan park began in August 2020 with Westminster City Council. A separate meeting with the Met Police has also taken place, the BBC understands.

Additional proposals for a Uefa Euro 2020 Football Village at Potters Fields Park, near City Hall and Tower Bridge, are also being considered.

Previously, Greenwich Park was going to be used as the official fan park, had the tournament been able to go ahead as scheduled last year.
