SCOTT BROWN says that the Celtic squad are fully behind manager Neil Lennon, as the club captain insisted that Lennon was right to bite back at critics of their trip to Dubai.
Lennon delivered an astonishing rebuke to sections of the media and the Scottish Government on Monday after the club received flak for choosing to travel to Dubai for a mid-season training camp. A picture of Brown and Lennon enjoying a drink by the poolside also attracted criticism.
Despite 13 players and three members of staff being forced to self-isolate following the journey to the United Arab Emirates – including Lennon himself – the Celtic boss came out swinging as he defended the club’s right to travel.
Brown says that the players all back his stance, and that it is now up to the entire club to present a united front both on and off the pitch.
“We all back the gaffer,” Brown said. “I think what he said was right, as far as I’m concerned.
“I don’t want to get too involved in the politics and stuff, that’s for the manager and chief executive.
“But for us players it’s about doing our talking on the park and producing results for the manager.
“We need to stick together, that’s the big one. We need to be with the manager and all on the same page.
“It’s about concentrating on ourselves, not on anyone else, just focusing on winning all our games in hands and taking it from there.
“The manager loves this club. He’s been here for 20 years all in and he knows nothing else apart from winning.
“He tries to drive that in to us every single day in training, whether it’s a possession drill or five asides.
“That’s the way you need to be at this club. In the last couple of months we’ve not managed to do that in the way we are used to – that’s not the manager, that’s all of us together.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
