STEVEN GERRARD has expressed his pride at Rangers' European performances as they get set to return to domestic action on Sunday.
The Light Blues exited the Europa League at the last 16 stage in midweek as Bayer Leverkusen proved too strong and followed up a 3-1 Ibrox win with a 1-0 victory on home soil.
Rangers host St Mirren on Premiership duty this weekend and Gerrard is determined to continue striving for further improvements.
He said: “We are hugely proud of their achievements in Europe, not just this year but last year too. I am sure the fans would echo that too.
“Of course, we came up short on Thursday, we came up short over the two legs.
“But that’s the level we have to strive for and that’s the level I’m going to work hard to get to.
“We obviously want to do better in the future, but I honestly couldn’t have asked for more from my players on that front.
“The quality and the progress over our European journey is there for all to see and I have enjoyed every bit of it.
“I was frustrated at times on Thursday night, but I only have high praise given we had to come through so many qualifiers.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
