JAMES TAVERNIER hopes Rangers can replicate their stunning showing against Braga domestically after raising the bar in the Europa League.
Steven Gerrard's side continued their superb European record with a 1-0 victory in Portugal to ensure they will be in the hat for the last 16 draw on Friday.
Braga were favourites to progress despite losing the first leg at Ibrox last week but Ryan Kent netted the only goal of the game in the second half.
And captain Tavernier was delighted with a terrific showing as Rangers put their barren Premiership form behind them on the continent.
He said: “We listened to the gaffer and the staff and the tactics he wanted us to deploy. To a man we carried it out perfectly and got an incredible result.
“Even the subs who came on made a vital contribution. We are delighted to go through to the last 16 and we can’t wait for the draw.
“I think this is our best performance. They are the highest scoring team in the Europa League.
“They are the best team I have played against since I came to Rangers. They are so clever at using the ball and they have so many talented players.
“They are a terrific team who beat Wolves home and away earlier in the competition. That’s what makes it so satisfying. I’m just delighted we stopped them getting a goal tonight.
“I’m delighted and disappointed at the same time. I’m delighted at keeping a clean sheet against a team like this.
“But, we need to replicate that domestically. The signs are there and we proved we good we can be as a team.
"The signs are there we can show everyone how good we can be as a team and carry out the tactics.
"It’s just disappointing that the full performance has not been there domestically and it has cost us points. We just have to learn from it and move forward."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
